Westerfeld Belgians is a family affair with Brian and Joan starting the operation in the summer of 1984. Our family consist of two sons Thad and Travis as well as one daughter,Jessi. The kids all have families with Thad and Jennifer having one daughter Emma and a son, Hyden James who arrived on July 1, 2005. Travis and Shari have a son Lane and a daughter Hattie. Jessi and Daryl Ellis have two sons Mitchell and newly arrived Alan IIiff Ellis born Feb 16, 2005.

What began with two six-month old stud colts in 1984 has grown to an operation that includes 5 brood mares and a two-year old stallion, BJ Strut, along with several weanlings, yearlings and 2-year olds.

In March, 2005 we added another stallion to our operation. Hyjak Chips Ariens was acquired from Cherry Ridge Belgians (Doug and Kathleen Luper). He was 2004 All American aged stallion, along with being the first prize three year-old stallion at the 2004 world show in London, Ontario, Canada. We are set up to ship chilled semen from Ariens and Strut for the 2006 breeding season.

While everyone plays a major role in the preparation and showing of the horses, Brian and Joan along with Travis and Shari have formed a partnership and both live on the farm, seeing to the day to day activities. Thad plays a major role in setting up at the fairs as well as getting us prepared for the hitch and halter classes. Jessi does the mane rolling and tail tying. One big team effort.

We show our horses at the Indiana State Fair, National Belgian Show, North American International Livestock Exposition, Keystone International and many others. We have been fortunate to have exhibited two All American horses. W.B. Regal Supreme in 1996 and W.B. Nevertheless in 2002. Along with these two we have recieved Reserve All American honors with BJ Strut in 2004.
